The Teatro Regio di Torino is one of the most important opera houses in Italy, founded by the House of Savoy in 1740 and rebuilt in a boldly modern style by Carlo Mollino after the original theatre was destroyed by fire in 1936. Reopened in 1973, the Teatro Regio is celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and its programming that balances the Italian repertoire with important 20th-century and contemporary works. The theatre anchors the Piazza Castello, Turin's monumental civic heart.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
Following comprehensive acoustic refinements in 1994 and 1996, Teatro Regio now delivers exceptional clarity and balance between singers and orchestra. The modernist auditorium's curved lines and carefully calibrated reverberation time create an intimate acoustic environment despite its grand scale.
The main hall features a wide, deeply raked seating body with excellent sightlines throughout. The single curved row of 37 boxes provides an elegant alternative, though patrons should note that seating is notably compact.
