A New Stage is a groundbreaking virtual dance program conceived and curated by New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck during the COVID-19 pandemic. The production presents three distinct mixed-bill performances that celebrate artistic resilience and innovation. "Unusual Way" features Peck in a world premiere solo choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, where her movement becomes a countermelody to Broadway star Sierra Boggess's rendition of the song from the musical Nine, exploring connection and longing through the interplay of voice and body. "Syncopated Ladies: Amplified," choreographed by Chloe Arnold, showcases electrifying tap performances set to contemporary music and spoken word by artists including Ciara, Common, and John Legend, addressing themes of struggle and sisterhood. "Petrushka Reimagined," choreographed by Jennifer Weber, offers a bold hip-hop-influenced reinterpretation of Stravinsky's 1911 ballet, featuring Peck as a rigid music-box ballerina and Memphis dancer Lil Buck as the melancholic Petrushka. Together, these pieces demonstrate how diverse dance forms and artistic traditions can merge to create innovative work accessible to global audiences.
