In the Forest of Arden, exiled Duke Senior has established a pastoral court among loyal followers, while his usurping brother Duke Frederick rules the dukedom. When Frederick banishes Rosalind, the rightful duke's daughter, she flees to Arden disguised as a young man named Ganymede, accompanied by her cousin Celia. There, Rosalind encounters Orlando, a nobleman fleeing his own tyrannical brother, and the two fall into witty, flirtation-laden discourse. Rosalind, still disguised, offers to cure Orlando of his lovesickness by pretending to be Rosalind herself, leading to a series of clever exchanges that blur the lines between performance and genuine affection. Meanwhile, the shepherd Silvius pines for the disdainful Phebe, who becomes enamored with the disguised Rosalind. As the forest works its transformative magic, identities are revealed, true love triumphs, and the rightful order is restored through marriage and reconciliation.
