Angelin Preljocaj's contemporary reimagining of the classic fairy tale transforms Snow White into a darkly psychological exploration of beauty, vanity, and power. The ballet follows a young woman caught between the suffocating control of her stepmother and her own awakening desire for autonomy and love. Through visceral movement and striking visual imagery, Preljocaj deconstructs the traditional narrative, presenting the mirror as a symbol of obsession and the poisoned apple as an act of liberation rather than destruction. The work blends classical ballet vocabulary with contemporary choreographic language, creating a haunting meditation on identity and the price of perfection. Accompanied by Rodion Shchedrin's evocative score, the ballet explores themes of jealousy, desire, and the complex relationship between mother and daughter figures.
