Synopsis
Beatrice, Duchess of Milan, has married the ambitious Filippo Visconti, handing him power over her domains. But Filippo, now infatuated with Beatrice's lady-in-waiting Agnese, fabricates charges of adultery to eliminate his wife. Confronted with torture and a rigged tribunal, Beatrice maintains her innocence with quiet dignity. Bellini's penultimate opera is a searing portrait of political tyranny and feminine courage.
