In the Latin Quarter of Paris, a group of impoverished bohemians—a poet, a painter, a philosopher, and a musician—share a garret apartment and navigate love, poverty, and artistic ambition. Rodolfo, a poet, falls passionately in love with Mimì, a fragile seamstress who lives nearby. Their romance blooms amid the vibrant street life of Paris, but their happiness is shadowed by Mimì's persistent cough and their shared destitution. Meanwhile, Rodolfo's friend Marcello, a painter, pursues a flirtation with the vivacious Musetta, a courtesan with her own complicated heart. As winter deepens and circumstances shift, the bohemians face the harsh realities of their circumstances. The opera captures both the exuberance and melancholy of youth, love, and the struggle to survive while pursuing artistic dreams in a city that offers both promise and heartbreak.
