Synopsis
The sorceress Medea, abandoned by Jason after she sacrificed everything to help him win the Golden Fleece, arrives in Corinth to find him about to marry the king's daughter. Consumed by rage and despair, Medea takes the most terrible revenge imaginable, murdering their own children before setting the palace ablaze and vanishing in a chariot of fire. Cherubini's fierce neoclassical opera, a favourite role of Maria Callas, is one of the most psychologically harrowing works in the repertoire.
