The British princess Imogen secretly marries the low-born Posthumus against her father King Cymbeline's wishes. Banished to Rome, Posthumus is tricked by the villainous Iachimo into believing Imogen unfaithful and orders her killed. Imogen flees in disguise, encounters her long-lost brothers raised in the Welsh wilderness, and the tangled threads of war, betrayal, and mistaken identity are finally unravelled in one of Shakespeare's most astonishing recognition scenes.
