Joe Turner's Come and Gone

Set in a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911, during the Great Migration, the play centers on Herald Loomis, a man haunted by seven years of forced labor on Joe Turner's chain gang, searching for the wife who was taken from him. The various boarders — including a conjurer, a guitar player, and others seeking connection — weave together stories of displacement, racial violence, and the search for identity in the post-emancipation North.
