Kátya Kabanová

Kátya Kabanová unfolds in a provincial Russian town where the merchant-class Kabanov family maintains rigid social conventions and patriarchal control. Kátya, a sensitive and passionate young woman, finds herself trapped in a loveless marriage to the weak-willed Tichon, dominated by his tyrannical mother Kabanicha. When Tichon departs on business, Kátya encounters Boris, a poor but noble young man, and the two experience a brief, intense romantic awakening.
