
The young lovers Hippolyte and Aricie face the wrath of Hippolyte's stepmother Phèdre, who harbors a forbidden passion for him. When Hippolyte rejects her advances, Phèdre falsely accuses him to his father Thésée, who calls down Neptune's curse. A sea monster seemingly kills Hippolyte, Phèdre confesses and takes poison, but Diana intervenes to reunite the innocent lovers in her sacred grove.
