Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny

Three fugitives from justice found Mahagonny, a pleasure city in the American wilderness where everything is permitted for a price. The lumberjack Jimmy Mahoney becomes the city's prophet of absolute freedom, but when he runs out of money, he discovers that Mahagonny's only capital crime is poverty. He is sentenced to death, and the city descends into chaos and self-destruction.
