Summerfolk

A group of Russian intellectuals, professionals, and their families gather at their summer dachas, where they debate, flirt, quarrel, and confront the gap between their progressive ideals and their privileged, aimless lives. Gorky's ensemble drama portrays a class on the verge of irrelevance, too comfortable to act on their convictions. The long summer days become a metaphor for a society drifting toward upheaval.
