Tenor (lirico spinto)
A British-Italian tenor of the lirico spinto fach who has ascended from Royal Academy of Music student to one of Europe's most sought-after Cavaradossis, combining an unmistakably Italianate voice with the dramatic intensity required of Verdi's most demanding tenor roles.
Defining moments and milestones
De Tommaso's ascent from Royal Academy student to international tenor of the first rank was crystallized by his 2018 Francisco Viñas Competition victory and cemented by his breakthrough 2021 performance as Cavaradossi at the Royal Opera House, where he became the youngest tenor and first British performer in decades to sing the role on that stage. Since then, he has established himself as one of Europe's most sought-after interpreters of the Italian spinto repertoire, commanding the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Wiener Staatsoper, and the Bolshoi with a voice of unmistakable Italianate warmth and dramatic power.
First Prize, Plácido Domingo Tenor Prize, and Verdi Prize at the 55th Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition, Barcelona (2018); youngest tenor and first British performer since 1963 to sing Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Royal Opera House (2021)
