Baritone
Italian baritone Luca Salsi has established himself as one of the world's preeminent Verdi interpreters, commanding the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the world's leading opera houses with his incisive, powerful voice and dramatically commanding presence.
Defining moments and milestones
Emerging from Parma's prestigious conservatory in the mid-1990s, Luca Salsi built his reputation methodically through Italy's great opera houses before ascending to the world's leading stages, where he has become the gold standard for Verdi baritone roles. His voice—incisive, rich, and dramatically commanding—proved ideally suited to the demands of the composer's most complex characters, from Rigoletto to Macbeth to Scarpia. By the 2010s, Salsi had become a fixture at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and Vienna State Opera, opening multiple seasons at Milan's greatest theater and establishing himself as one of the world's most authoritative interpreters of the dramatic baritone repertoire.
Performed both Verdi's *Ernani* (as Carlo) and Donizetti's *Lucia di Lammermoor* (as Enrico) at the Metropolitan Opera on the same day in April 2015, stepping in on short notice for Plácido Domingo in the afternoon performance
