Soprano (contemporary belt)
Maya Boyd is an emerging American musical theatre performer who achieved Broadway stardom while still an undergraduate, originating the role of Juliet in the hit revival of & Juliet at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Defining moments and milestones
Boyd emerged from the University of Michigan's musical theatre program to make her Broadway debut in the ensemble of Merrily We Roll Along in September 2023, quickly establishing herself as a performer of considerable range and discipline. Her breakthrough came when she was cast as the title character in & Juliet, the David Adjmi–Max Martin musical that opened in May 2024 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre—a leading role she originated while completing her senior year of college, demonstrating the kind of precocious talent and professional readiness that marks transformative careers. With subsequent Broadway engagements including Molly Cunningham in Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Boyd has positioned herself as a vital voice in contemporary musical theatre, combining classical technique with the contemporary sensibility demanded by modern scores.
