The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre is the Broadway home of Manhattan Theatre Club, a 650-seat jewel box on West 47th Street. Originally the Biltmore Theatre when it opened in 1925, it was renovated and renamed in 2008 in honor of the noted theatrical press agent. Its intimate scale makes it ideal for the serious dramatic work for which MTC is celebrated.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
Praised for excellent acoustics and sightlines throughout the intimate 650-seat house, with sound quality consistently noted as exceptional from nearly every seat. The auditorium's design—featuring hard-backed seats and careful attention to acoustic principles—ensures clarity without amplification.
Center Orchestra Rows C-G and Front Mezzanine Rows AA-B offer the ideal balance of sightlines and acoustic clarity. Orchestra Rows E-J and Mezzanine Rows B-D (Center) provide excellent views at better value, with the mezzanine's strong rake ensuring clear sightlines even from the back.
