Founded in 1963 by fourteen prominent Oklahomans, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma stands as the state's official theatre company and a cornerstone of professional performing arts in the region. The company operates across two distinctive venues: the intimate 279-seat Lyric at the Plaza, housed in a beautifully restored 1935 art deco movie palace that catalyzed the revitalization of Oklahoma City's historic Plaza District, and the grand 2,477-seat Civic Center Music Hall, a majestic 1937 venue renovated in the late 1990s. Lyric Theatre presents Broadway-caliber musicals, contemporary plays, and new works with professional artistry, complemented by the Thelma Gaylord Academy's commitment to arts education. Attending a Lyric production offers audiences the rare opportunity to experience world-class theatre in beautifully maintained historic venues, drawing patrons from across Oklahoma and beyond.
