National Theatre

The National Theatre's main entrance faces the Thames on the South Bank. First-time visitors should approach from Waterloo Bridge or via the riverside walkway; the building's Brutalist form makes it unmistakable once you're in the precinct.

The three theatres have separate bar areas; the Olivier's bar is the largest and least crowded during intervals. Queues for drinks can be substantial—arrive early or visit during the first five minutes of intermission. The building's open-plan design allows easy navigation between spaces.

Public Transit

Waterloo Station (Northern, Bakerloo, Jubilee, District, Circle, and Hammersmith & City lines) is the primary hub, a 5-minute walk across Waterloo Bridge. The South Bank area is served by multiple bus routes. Ride-share drop-off is available on the Upper Ground Street side of the building.

Parking

Street parking in central London is limited and expensive. The nearest car parks are the Waterloo Station car park (approximately 5-minute walk) and the County Hall car park (adjacent to the building). Expect £15–25 for evening performances. Public transport is strongly recommended.
