The oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, the New York Philharmonic has shaped American musical life since 1842 under a lineage of music directors that includes Gustav Mahler, Arturo Toscanini, Leonard Bernstein, and Zubin Mehta. Performing at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center — recently transformed by a major renovation that dramatically improved its acoustics — the Philharmonic delivers a season of unmatched breadth and prestige. Its archives constitute one of the richest documentary records of orchestral performance in the world, spanning nearly two centuries of continuous music-making.
