One of the oldest ballet companies in the world, the Royal Danish Ballet traces its origins to 1748 and remains the custodian of the Bournonville tradition — a distinctively Danish school of classical ballet prized for its buoyant jumps, intricate footwork, and lyrical grace. The company performs at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen and maintains an unbroken link to the choreographic legacy of August Bournonville, whose nineteenth-century works survive nowhere else in their authentic form. Beyond preservation, the company commissions contemporary works that place this storied institution in dialogue with the present. The Royal Danish Ballet is a living monument to Scandinavian cultural heritage.
