Perched on a hillside outside Santa Fe with sweeping views of the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains, Santa Fe Opera is one of the most extraordinary operatic settings on earth. Founded in 1957 by John Crosby, the company performs in a striking open-air theatre where the New Mexico sunset becomes part of the staging. Santa Fe Opera has earned an international reputation for championing new works and American premieres alongside inventive productions of the standard repertoire. Its summer festival draws a devoted audience that considers the pilgrimage to this high-desert stage an annual rite.

Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The open-air Crosby Theatre features exceptional natural acoustics enhanced by the 1998 renovation's heavy glue-laminated decking roof designed as an acoustical surface. Consistently praised as one of the most acoustically superior venues in the country.
Orchestra sections 4-6 offer the ideal balance of proximity and sightlines at premium pricing. Center sections throughout are recommended; avoid extreme side seats in the front rows due to potential obstructions.

The lunch service is faster than dinner. The back patio (summer) is the best seating. Order 'Christmas' for both red and green chile. The sopapilla at the end with honey is the ritual close of every meal here.
Arrive by 8 AM to avoid the queue. The communal table is the best option for solo performers — genuine conversations happen here. The coffee is excellent.
