The Vienna State Ballet is one of the world's most prestigious dance institutions, performing primarily at the Vienna State Opera House—a Neo-Renaissance masterpiece that opened in 1869 and stands as the first major building on the Vienna Ringstrasse. Under the artistic direction of Alessandra Ferri from the 2025/26 season onward, the company maintains a distinguished repertoire spanning classical narrative ballets to contemporary works, embodying a commitment to manifesting classical ballet within a modern artistic context. The company's performances take place in one of Europe's most acoustically celebrated venues, rebuilt with meticulous fidelity to its original design following World War II devastation.
Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The Vienna State Opera House is renowned for exceptional acoustics, with critics and audiences consistently praising its sound quality. The auditory experience varies subtly between the stalls and gallery due to the building's distinctive architecture and lively acoustic properties, enhanced by state-of-the-art audio technology.
The stalls and boxes 1-4 offer the most immersive experience closest to the stage, though at premium prices. For balanced sightlines and value, the Dress Circle (first tier) and front rows of the balcony provide excellent views with superior acoustics. Categories 3 and 4 offer good value without sacrificing the listening experience.
