Synopsis
The Phoenician prince Cadmus must slay a dragon and overcome the enchantments of jealous gods to win the hand of Hermione, daughter of Mars and Venus. After battling warriors who spring from the dragon's teeth, Cadmus earns divine favor. The gods celebrate the lovers' union in this first tragédie en musique, which established the template for French Baroque opera.
