The elderly bachelor Don Pasquale threatens to disinherit his nephew Ernesto for wanting to marry the young widow Norina. The clever Dr. Malatesta arranges a sham marriage between Don Pasquale and the disguised Norina, who immediately transforms from a demure bride into an extravagant tyrant. Driven to desperation by his impossible new wife, Don Pasquale gladly consents to Ernesto and Norina's real marriage.
