Die Fledermaus follows the misadventures of Gabriel von Eisenstein, a wealthy Viennese gentleman who faces imprisonment for a minor offense. Before surrendering to serve his sentence, he attends a lavish masked ball hosted by the mysterious Prince Orlofsky, where identities dissolve and social hierarchies crumble. His wife Rosalinde, believing her husband to be away, encounters her former admirer Alfred at the ball in disguise. Meanwhile, Eisenstein's chambermaid Adele, who has been given leave to attend the soirée, mingles freely among the aristocracy. Through a series of escalating misunderstandings, revelations, and comic confrontations—all set to Strauss's irresistible waltzes and melodies—the characters navigate infidelity, deception, and the transformative power of masquerade. By evening's end, champagne flows, masks fall away, and forgiveness prevails, restoring harmony to Vienna's glittering society.
