Giselle tells the tragic story of a young peasant girl caught between love and duty in a world where the supernatural and mortal realms collide. In a Rhineland village, Giselle falls deeply for Albrecht, a mysterious nobleman who has disguised himself as a peasant to court her. When her rival, the gamekeeper Hilarion, exposes Albrecht's true identity and reveals he is already betrothed to a noblewoman, Giselle's heart shatters. Driven mad by betrayal and grief, she dies—some versions suggest by her own hand. In the second act, her spirit joins the Wilis, vengeful ghosts of maidens who died before their wedding days, condemned to dance eternally in the moonlit forest. Albrecht, consumed by remorse, seeks forgiveness at Giselle's tomb. Though the Wilis attempt to dance him to death, Giselle's enduring love offers him redemption, allowing his soul to escape their supernatural grasp.
