This sparkling intermezzo presents the domestic battle of wits between the quick-witted servant Serpina and her aging, bumbling master Ubaldo. Serpina, determined to improve her station, devises an elaborate scheme to manipulate Ubaldo into marriage by feigning a rival suitor and threatening to leave his household. Through a series of comic misunderstandings and theatrical deceptions, she systematically outmaneuvers the befuddled gentleman at every turn. Ubaldo, initially resistant and indignant at her presumption, finds himself increasingly ensnared in her machinations. The mute servant Vespone serves as both witness and unwitting accomplice to Serpina's cunning plot. By the work's conclusion, Ubaldo capitulates entirely, agreeing to marry his servant and elevate her to the status she has so brazenly claimed for herself. The opera celebrates the triumph of wit and determination over wealth and social convention.
