Rockets and Blue Lights

Two timelines interweave: in the present day, actress Lou returns from Hollywood to shoot a film inspired by J.M.W. Turner's painting The Slave Ship. In the 1800s, freed slaves Lucy and Thomas struggle to overcome their memories of captivity as Thomas, unable to resist the call of the sea, signs on for what turns out to be a former slaver. Winsome Pinnock's powerful drama asks who owns our past and who has the right to tell its stories, confronting the unfinished business of the transatlantic slave trade.
