Sylphide Australian Ballet

La Sylphide follows James, a young Scottish farmer, whose wedding day is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious sylph—a delicate, ethereal creature visible only to him. Entranced by her otherworldly beauty, James abandons his bride Effie at the altar to pursue the sylph into the forest. There, he discovers that the sylph exists in a realm beyond mortal reach. When a witch offers him a scarf to bind the sylph to him, James accepts, only to learn too late that the enchanted fabric will destroy her. As the sylph dies in his arms, James watches in despair as his former bride passes by, now married to another. The ballet explores the tragic collision between romantic idealism and earthly reality, between the ethereal and the tangible, leaving the protagonist bereft of both worlds.
