Werner Sonata is an abstract ballet choreographed by Silas Farley as a creative response to the pandemic, fulfilling a collective need for rest, reflection, and renewal. Set to Kyle Werner's Sonata for Violin and Piano, the work unfolds across three movements, showcasing the virtuosity of The Washington Ballet's dancers in an outdoor setting amid the spring meadows of Wolf Trap National Park. Rather than telling a narrative story, the ballet honors ballet's classical traditions while simultaneously projecting a vibrant future for the art form. The work celebrates resilience and hope through movement, demonstrating how dance can serve as a vehicle for collective healing and artistic continuity during uncertain times.
