OperaDas Rheingold
Richard Wagner · 1869
Wagner's monumental prelude to the Ring cycle unfolds across the mythological realms of gods, giants, and dwarves locked in a struggle for supremacy. When the Nibelung dwarf Alberich forges the all-powerful Ring from the Rhinegold, he sets in motion a chain of betrayals and cosmic consequences that will reshape the fate of gods and mortals alike. Wotan, chief of the gods, schemes to reclaim the Ring through cunning and force, while the primordial Earth Goddess Erda warns of impending doom. The preliminary evening culminates in the gods' ascension to their new fortress Valhalla, unaware that the curse upon the Ring has already begun its inexorable work.
