When the handsome Tonio, a young peasant, falls in love with her and wishes to marry her, the regiment's sergeant and soldiers initially resist, fearing the loss of their cherished mascot. As complications unfold involving Marie's true parentage and her unexpected connection to nobility, she must navigate the conflicting demands of her regimental family and her newfound aristocratic heritage.
