The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden stands as one of the world's supreme temples of opera and ballet, home to both The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet. The present theatre, the third on the site, dates to 1858 and underwent a transformative renovation completed in 1999 that married its Victorian grandeur with modern facilities. From Handel premieres to landmark productions by directors like David McVicar and Katie Mitchell, the house has shaped operatic history for nearly three centuries. Its Covent Garden piazza location places it at the very heart of London's cultural life.

Acoustics, seating, and what to expect
The horseshoe-shaped auditorium design contributes to good sound distribution, with the venue maintaining a long-standing reputation as a premier opera house. The Victorian auditorium, dating to 1858, prioritizes classic acoustic performance.
Centre of Orchestra Stalls rows G-L and Donald Gordon Grand Tier Row A offer excellent views and brilliant acoustics. Front half of the Amphitheatre provides good value, though distance from stage reduces detail visibility. Avoid rear Stalls Circle rows due to overhang obstruction and extreme side positions.
